Introduction:

ABAP is a high level programming language created by the German software company SAP. It is currently positioned, alongside the more recently introduced Java, as the language for programming SAP's Web Application Server, part of its Net Weaver platform for building business applications.

The ABAP programming language was originally used by developers to develop the SAP R/3 platform. It was also intended to be used by SAP customers to enhance SAP applications – customers can develop custom reports and interfaces with ABAP programming. The language is fairly easy to learn for programmers but it is not a tool for direct use by non-programmers. Good programming skills, including knowledge of relational database design and preferably also of object-oriented concepts, are required to create ABAP programs.

SAP's BI is a very pervasively employed data warehouse / analytical enterprise software solution, often utilized heavily by companies that essentially run their business on SAP operational systems such as SAP Enterprise Resource Planning (SAP ERP).SAP's BI solution contains a large number of predefined extractors, a very significant amount of pre-defined business content in the form of Info Cubes, master data (i.e. objects representing the entity for Customer or Material), authorization roles, query views and reports all delivered in the software by SAP.

Some of the significant benefits of this approach include the ability to leverage SAP's substantial business knowledge from many years of developing extremely sophisticated software systems for the world's largest companies typically shortening project development cycles in the process.

The pre-defined business content can be modified to meet an organization's specific requirements, while at the same time taking advantage of general aspects of these delivered data models and reports that are somewhat foundational and have broad application in business, government, and education.

Business Objects Business Intelligence (BI) platform provides flexible systems management for an enterprise SAP BI standard that allows administrators to confidently deploy and standardize their BI implementations on a proven, scalable, and adaptive service-oriented architecture

SAP Business Objects (BO) 4.0 suite is here with Seven major Enhancements.

  1. BO Universe (semantic layer) can now be sourced from multiple databases, overcoming a major obstacle of previous versions.
  2. Universe can now access MOLAP (cubes from Microsoft Analysis Services, Essbase etc.)
  3. Data sources directly via MDX without having to “flatten them out” first. In prior versions, Universe could only access SQL sources.
  4. There’s now a more common look and feel to individual BI products, including Crystal, Webi, Explorer, and Analysis (former BEx). This is another step in the right direction to unify SAP BI products, but it’s still not a complete solution. It will be a while before all SAP BI products are fully and seamlessly integrated, as well as other BI tools/platforms that grew more organically.
  5. All SAP BI tools, including Xcelsius (Dashboards in 4.0), that did not have access to BO Universe now do.
  6. There’s now a tighter integration with BW via direct exposure of BW metadata (BEx queries and Info Providers) to all BO tools.
  7. Improved BI/BW performance. This is the one I can’t validate until I talk with some customers. But SAP claims that, starting with 4.0, BW will have a unique set of proprietary SAP APIs that are 4+ times faster than APIs that are available to the other BI tools. I am assuming that what this means is that from now on, BW access by Business Objects will be faster than by any other BI tool.
  8. Last but not least, 4.0 is the first version highly optimized for the HANA in-memory appliance. Previous versions and other BI tools will also work with HANA; that should not be the primary factor in your decision whether to upgrade to 4.0 or not, but it’s indeed another variable in the mix. What does “optimized” mean in this case? Remember, all of your BI applications (with the exception of in-memory specific BI apps) were written and optimized for accessing disk-based RDBMS. Chunks of code that were written specifically for that purpose can now be removed, and that code can be optimized for direct memory data access. That’s indeed what SAP claims they did in version 4.0.

SAP Business Information Warehouse (SAP BW) is the name of the Business Intelligence, analytical, reporting and Data Warehousing (DWH) solution which is one of the major enterprise software applications produced by SAP AG.

BW consists among other things of components for data management (Data Warehousing Workbench), extensive data modeling capabilities, an embedded analytical engine, a suite of rich front-end analytical tools referred to as Business Explorer (BEx), and operational tools used for importing the most current transactional data into the system. It may be helpful to consider three layers that make up the structure of SAP's BI solution.

Extraction, Transformation and Load (ETL) layer - responsible for extracting data from a specific source, applying transformation rules, and loading it into SAP BW system.
Data warehouse area - responsible for storing the information in a various types of structures, including multidimensional structures called Info Cubes.Reporting - responsible for accessing the information in data warehouse area and presenting it in a user-friendly manner to the analyst or business user.

HADOOP DESCRIPTION:

Hadoop is a frame work for running applications for large cluster built of commodity hardware. The Hadoop framework transparently provides application both reliability and data motion. Hadoop implements a computational paradigm named Map/Reduce, where the application is divided into many small fragments of work, each of which may be executed or re executed on any node in the cluster.

In addition, it provides a distributed file system (HDFS) that stores data on the compute cluster. Both Map/Reduce and the distributed file system are designed so that node failures are automatically handled by the Framework.Hadoop is open-source implementation for Google Map Reduce .Hadoop is based on a simple programming model called Map Reduce .Hadoop is based on a simple data model, any data will fit.

Hadoop is one of the tools designed to handle big data. Hadoop and other software products work to interpret orparse the results of big data searches through specific proprietary algorithms and methods. Hadoop is an open-source program under the Apache license that is maintained by a global community of users. It includes various main components, including a Map Reduce set of functions and a Hadoop distributed file system (HDFS).

Informatica is a tool, supporting all the steps of Extraction, Transformation and Load process. Now a days Informatica is also being used as an Integration tool.

Informatica is an easy to use tool. It has got a simple visual interface like forms in visual basic. You just need to drag and drop different objects (known as transformations) and design process flow for Data extraction transformation and load. These process flow diagrams are known as mappings. Once a mapping is made, it can be scheduled to run as and when required. In the background Informatica server takes care of fetching data from source, transforming it, & loading it to the target systems/databases.

Informatica can communicate with all major data sources (mainframe/ RDBMS/ Flat Files/ XML/ VSM/ SAP etc), can move/transform data between them. It can move huge volumes of data in a very effective way, many a times better than even bespoke programs written for specific data movement only. It can throttle the transactions (do big updates in small chunks to avoid long locking and filling the transactional log). It can effectively join data from two distinct data sources (even a xml file can be joined with a relational table). In all, Informatica has got the ability to effectively integrate heterogeneous data sources & converting raw data into useful information.
